Lisa's Zumba

At the weekend, I had the pleasure of going along to the Failsworth Carnival to watch Lisa's Zumba in action. Lisa is a fully qualified and registered Zumba instructor who is based in the Oldham area. Holding two classes a week, and with a turnout of at least 70 dancers for the Sunday event, (with plenty more in the crowd for support) it's safe to say that she is good at what she does!

What is Zumba I hear you ask me?

Well officially, Zumba is a form of interval training disguised in an upbeat dance session. What would I say it was? I very fun, very social way to burn those extra calories, without actually realising you have done the exercise. On average, you can burn between 500 - 1000 calories per session! And did I mention it is fun?   Well, I am basing this on my experience of watching it for two days, and the feedback I got from the Zumbarettes (those taking part) as well as the reaction from the crowds watching. With a modern take on old classics, as well as some very catchy songs you have probably not heard before, you will no doubt be crying out for more. much like the Zumbarettes was after 1 1/2 hours of dancing on a moving float!

"It's like a night out, but without the drinking. And you are losing weight at the same time." one of the regulars told me. Honestly, what more could you ask for? you get to get together with friends, and dance your heart out! Not only are you dancing, but you will be screaming and chanting and singing your heart out. Are you sold yet?

You don't have to be the worlds best dancer, in fact, it will probably be more fun if you are not. Each dance routine is lead by one of the instructors, all you have to do is follow. With dances ranging from the slow (dirty dancing - time of your life) through to the fast paced favourites (Gangnam Style) there will be something for everyone! And the classes really are for everyone. Everyone is welcome; Ladies, Gents, Young, Old, Big, Small, it really is open for anyone, of any ability! Take a look at the pics, and I'll see you at the other end!

I told you its not just for the ladies!

Like I said, it is a very vocal activity. You will most probably find yourself shouting along with the group, I know I did, and I wasn't even dancing!

All that said, it is a workout, and you will be tired by the end of it, but you will have enjoyed every second. Even the professionals get a little out of breath

What more is there to tell you?

Like I said earlier, Lisa runs 2 hour long classes every week. Tuesday and Thursday evenings. If you are sat there feeling a little self concious about dancing in front of 100 or so people, don't be. The classes are done under dropped lights, with disco balls dotted around the room to really get you in the mood. The only lights are those that are on the leaders!

The best part about Lisa's classes; You can try it for FREE! . The first class is free and then £4 after that but by all accounts you will be begging for more. So what are you waiting for? Get yourself down there for a free taster session and get hooked and get fit!
